Onward Play is searching for a Lead Character Artist! As a Lead Character Artist, you’ll be creating characters and creatures and working in different styles. In this role you’ll be creating high resolution Models and texture game ready assets. The ideal candidate will work directly with a core group of dedicated and experienced developers to establish a new studio and new project!


  • Experience modeling characters and creatures for video games or film.
  • Creating both high resolution 3D sculpts, final low polygon and textured game assets for highly creative characters and creatures.
  • Flexibility with art techniques involving next gen PBR materials to create a unique visual style for characters and creatures.
  • Partnering with other artists, designers, and tech artists to collaborate on creative solutions to solve complex character pipeline problems to bring these assets to life.
  • Understanding everything about sculpting the form, shape language, anatomy, and silhouette for human and creature anatomy and you know how to adapt them to different styles as needed.
  • Proficiency in creating texture maps in Substance Painter.
  • Solving problems, and you happily adjust to various needs for prototyping early in the development process.
  • You will accomplish your mission with complete autonomy if the need arises; you’re dedicated to finding creative and effective solutions to vigilantly eliminate difficult problems.
  • Have artistic persistence and good time management habits to meet project deadlines defined by the Art Director.
  • Collaborate with Internal and external vendors to make sure product goals are fulfilled and working practices are appropriate.
  • Use a flexible approach and drive rapid iteration while setting stylistic and visual standards for the animation process in pre-production.

Skill Requirements:

  • 10+ years of professional experience in the game/film industry as a Character Artist focusing on character & creature modeling.
  • Having professional experience as a character artist in the games industry, working on AAA games on major platforms.
  • Solid technical background with ability to design and implement systems.
  • Experience with physically based shader texture sets and pipelines.
  • Experience with JIRA.
  • Experience with Rigging and writing tools.
  • Deep passion for Art & Games.
